THE HOLY SPIRIT AS A TEACHER II CORINTHIANS 2:9-13

Jesus graciously invites us to “come learn of me” (Matthew 11:29). Google the name of our Lord and you will be directed to over 838,000,000 in .25 seconds. Go to a bookstore and you will find several shelves of books about Jesus. Turn on the television and you will find several channels devoted to teaching about Jesus. Open the local newspaper and you can read articles related to Jesus. Would you want to sift through all that information? What would your image of Jesus be when you finished reading all those pages?
If you wanted to refine your search to “salvation in Jesus” and Google will deliver 47,500,000 results in .28 seconds. Do we need to read all those webpages to learn how to be saved? How many different methods would you find presented on those web pages?
The best part of living in the Information Age is not having all the information at our fingertips. The best part of living in the Information Age is having the best information at our fingertips. If we are going to learn of Jesus and how to be saved in Jesus, we must all learn from the book which God gave us through the Holy Spirit. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). The Bible is the collection of the “sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation.” These Scriptures are able to effectively lead us to the Savior and salvation because they are given “by inspiration of the Holy Spirit”. They were not delivered by someone’s private interpretation, but are revealed as the writers were “carried along by the Holy Spirit”.
Through the Bible the Holy Spirit teaches us all that we can be certain about in life and godliness. Let us examine from I Corinthians II how the Holy Spirit uses the Scriptures to teach us today.

THE HOLY SPIRIT DEMONSTRATES THE TRUTH OF THE SCRIPTURES
I Corinthians 2:1-5
The confirmed miracles recorded in the Bible demonstrate the truth of the Scriptures–Hebrews 2:3-4.
These miracles would include prophecy,
signs performed by Jesus, and
signs performed by the apostles and prophets.
The truth of the Scriptures is also demonstrated in the superiority of the Scriptures above every other written documents.
They are by far the most prized ancient documents.
They are the only documents prized by every culture.
They are the only documents prized by those in every station of life.
They must be the product of the Divine will rather than human production.

THE HOLY SPIRIT REVEALS THE TRUTH IN THE SCRIPTURES.
I Corinthians 2:6-13
The Holy Spirit presents truth that surpasses the ages and great thinkers of the world–2:6
The Holy Spirit presents the truth that only God could reveal–2:7
The Holy Spirit presents truth that is often counter to our intuition–2:8
The Holy Spirit presents the revelation of God’s own mind–2:10-11.
The Holy Spirit presents the mind of God in a way that is understandable–2:12.
The Holy Spirit has given us the Word which we must present–2:13.

THE HOLY SPIRIT OFFERS CHRIST THROUGH THE SCRIPTURES.
I Corinthians 2:14-16.
The Holy Spirit’s presentation of Christ is not accepted by worldly minded people–2:14 (Luke 8:11-15).
The Holy Spirit’s presentation of Christ is accepted to those who are looking for the Savior–2:15.
“We have the mind of Christ” (2:16). Now what will you do with Jesus?

There are many things that we will never understand about the Holy Spirit, but we can know that He attempts to teach us through the written words of our Holy Bibles. Like you I have had many teachers for whom I am grateful. I am especially grateful for the great men who have attempted to teach me the Scriptures. Sadly, I have not always been the student I could have been.
As we study the Holy Spirit as a teacher, we understand that we have not applied ourselves to learning all that He has tried to present to us in the Scriptures. Let us today determine to learn all we can of God and His will. So that, by the grace of God, we may become more like His Son.
